How do I fix my tub that is not draining?
I live on the third floor of a house, it's a converted attic apartment. The drain in the bathtub doesn't drain the water, and I'm sure it's not clogged because I (on separate occasions) poured drano down the drain, and liquid plumbing snake. I use a strainer to catch all the hair, and I clean it regularly. What could be the problem, and how do i remedy it?
Well, if it's not draining, I'm pretty sure it's clogged. Notwithstanding your assurances to the contrary.
You will need an actual drain snake (the ones that are metal rather than liquid). They cost around $10 at the home improvement store.
Liquids really aren't that effective at removing clogs.
Unless it's the drain mechanism. What kind is it? If it's the kind where you just put a plug in, then there's really no way for that to go wrong. But if it's the kind with a little lever by the spigot then sometimes they break and it stays plugged when it's not supposed to. It usually straightens out if you flip the lever a couple of times, but sometimes you have to go in through the access panel in back, unscrew it and fix it from the inside.
