Why are gas pumps safe inside the gasoline tank?
Gas pumps have a built-in electric DC motor with brushes.
They are placed inside the tank.
When the tank is not full there is oxygen in it.
The motor brushes will produce sparks, yet the gas does not ignite.

The gas pump sparks would be housed in a casing that would not allow it access to the air/fuel mixture in the tank. It wouldn't ever be exposed, its contained in like a metal casing with the rest of the motor.

PS some fuel pumps wouldn't need brushes, that more for an electric motor, and as far as i know, many fuel pumps don't work the same way.
