I have a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser with power steering problems.?
The rack and pinion as a small leak on the right hand side. I check the fluid often and do not let it get to low. Today it stopped having the power assist. When you are going highway speeds it does ok, it is a little hard to steer, but if you slow down or stop it is really hard to steer. The pump is not making any noise, the belt is tight, and it is full of fluid. There is a slight shimmy in the front end, but it needs tires.
1st off, without proper diagnostics you cannot get a proper repair...with that being said...
2nd, it sound like you have a bad steering rack, have it replaced and that should take care of the problem. Also this should take care of your leak.
