How to build a wavepool?

I have to build a wave pool for a grade 11 physics class. Here are the criteria .
1. Most be no larger then 1.0m by 0.5m
2. Must have a shallow and a deep end
3. Must be located in a attractive setting
4. The waves must be periodic
5. Some type of Mechanical device must create the waves.

I was thinking of using a water pump. However will i need a return Valve for the waves?
Also any other ideas on how I could do this?

I already looked at that information. I know how wavepools work. Im looking for ideas or facts about how it will apply to a wavepool that is only 1m by 0.5m

How Wave Pools Work

One of mankind's oddest re-creations of nature is the artificial ocean shore, also known as the wave pool. These popular water park attractions are sanitized, regimented revisions of the wild, organic surfs created by nature. In wave pools, the water is chlorinated, the beach is concrete and the waves arrive like clockwork, once every few minutes.

In this article, we'll peek behind the scenes of Thunder Bay, the main attraction at Wet 'n Wild Emerald Pointe in Greensboro, NC. As we'll see, it takes a lot of sophisticated, powerful equipment to keep the waves rolling all day long. But the basic idea is very simple.
