Where does earth ground connect on the opposite end at the power plant?
Does it connect to a certain spot in the generator (windings)? If so, exactly where?
The centre of the star in a star wound alternator or transformer is usually tied to ground potential by a earth connection, the casing of the alternator/transformer because of safety would also be tied to ground potential by a connection here. In a delta wound transformer or alternator usually ground potential is tied to the mid point in the windings between two of the three phases. Same goes for a two phase setup in both open star and open delta. If the electrical system is designed correctly there should be little to no current flowing through the earth/neutral connection, as all the phases should be balanced, however significant current can flow if there is a phase to earth fault so the connection must be able to handle at-least the maximum current flow possible with a single phase to earth fault.
