Where should a Plumbing Company in the DFW area advertise?
We have done "Money Mailer" which is alot like Valpak and we received 2 calls in the one month and that was it. It did not pay for itself. Of course, the definite answer for getting more business is referrals, and most of our business relies on this but we need more. We already have signs on our car and trucks "Superplumbers" and our phone number "940.440.8412"
We also already know about Craigslist and haven't gotten much work from it. I was thinking Lone Star Pages which is alot like the Yellow Pages and doing a 2 page ad for like $810/ month. We could possibly make that back in one call, but we could also make it in 3, or 5. But, obviously, it is alot of money per month. I am open to doing it if I can get some feedback from some people that have advertised in the yellow pages or even in the Lone Star Pages and have had good experiences.

$810/month for a two-page ad in a phone book that rarely gets used is a waste of $9720/year. I don't know about you, but I get some no-name directory on my doorstep every couple of months, and I pitch them straight into the recycle bin. The problem with those books is that they never seem to have the "depth" that I'm looking for. Yes, they're fine for a "commodity" category such as your own -- plumbers -- but if I want something really diverse, such as a specific type of restaurant, those books are worthless. So rather than clutter my home with six or eight different phone books, I only keep the useful ones, which brings me to my obvious conclusion...
It may be painful to hear this, but the only DFW phone books that people regularly keep & use are the ones from AT&T and Verizon.
You'd do better running a quarter-page ad in one (or both) of those directories instead of two pages in a book that only gets used as a paperweight (if it gets used at all)!
